Reading First grade is a huge year of growth for students. First grader's are expected to grow seven reading levels by the end of the school year. They are not only required to read and orally answer questions about a book, but must write responses to what they read.
To prepare students for this, I will model and provide students with ample opportunities on how to read and answer TRC (text reading comprehension) questions with details.
At this time the class is learning how to identify the main topic and key details in a nonfiction text. Students are also learning how to describe text features in a nonfiction text.
Math
Students are learning how to mentally find one more, one less, ten more, and ten less than a number. Students are also representing numbers with tens and ones and identifying which numbers are greater using <,> or = symbols.
